Benissa Impuls reinforces awareness campaign as new waste containers arrive on the coast

The municipality prepares residents and visitors for the next phase of the waste management system, focusing on proper use and environmental responsibility

The latest phase of the waste management project promoted by Benissa Impuls is now underway, with the progressive installation of new containers for the residual waste fraction in coastal areas expected to begin in the coming days. This stage follows the recent rollout of the organic waste collection system across the entire municipality, marking a key step towards the full implementation of the new model.

During these initial stages, the service has already detected recurring issues, particularly the presence of waste bags left on the ground next to containers. While this situation has also been observed in the urban centre, it is anticipated that it may become more frequent in coastal zones as the new containers are introduced.

The new containers, designed with a top-loading system and controlled opening, aim to improve waste separation and collection efficiency. However, their correct use requires adaptation by residents and visitors, especially in areas with higher seasonal population.

In this context, Benissa Impuls is launching a pedagogical communication campaign in English, primarily aimed at the coastal population, to explain the reasons behind the new system and to encourage responsible waste disposal habits. The campaign highlights that proper separation—particularly of organic waste—is essential to ensure effective recycling processes and environmental sustainability.

The initiative also underlines that maintaining clean collection points contributes to the overall image of the municipality and supports a system that is more efficient and sustainable. In addition, the correct functioning of the system plays a role in containing service costs, helping to avoid potential increases in the municipal waste fee.

As part of the deployment, informative meetings have already been held with the Coastal Council, and further sessions are scheduled in the coming days to provide detailed guidance to different sectors of the population. At the same time, a door-to-door information campaign and leaflet distribution is planned to begin next week.

Looking ahead, the municipality is preparing for the distribution of access cards, which will be required to use the new containers. Residents across the urban centre, coastal areas and rural zones will be invited to collect their cards starting from the week of 3 May.

The current phase focuses on completing the replacement of traditional open containers with new closed-system units, finalising the infrastructure needed for the full operation of the service. Authorities stress the importance of avoiding improper practices, such as leaving bags outside containers or mixing unsuitable waste in the organic fraction, which can compromise the entire system.

Through this campaign, Benissa Impuls aims to reinforce the message that individual responsibility is key to achieving a cleaner environment, improving waste management and ensuring an efficient and sustainable service for the whole municipality.
